An Elective Approach to Surgery
Dr. Farr emphasizes that a key part of his responsibility as a knee specialist is to empower each patient to make an informed decision whether or not to have surgery. To this end, Dr. Farr helps each patient become fully educated about his or her condition, treatment options, and potential outcomes. Empowered by this knowledge, the patient—together with the entire healthcare team—can evaluate the best treatment choice.
In all cases, the goal at the Knee Restoration Center is to attempt to maintain normal anatomy whenever possible. Dr. Farr recognizes that there is great protective value in conserving—rather than removing or replacing—the body’s own tissue. To this end, early intervention, with repair or restoration, can prove to be its own "conservative approach"-rather than waiting for the knee to wear out and require replacement.
Given the "big picture," patients can make an educated choice to have surgery or continue with conservative methods to relieve symptoms. Dr. Farr invites you to ask questions throughout the decision-making process so that you will feel completely comfortable and confident in your chosen course of treatment.
