Empowering Patients Through Education and Communication

People Consulting With Doc

The Knee Care Institute embraces a philosophy of patient empowerment—an approach that encourages each patient to make his or her own informed decision about treatment, including whether to have surgery. After an accurate diagnosis is made, Dr. Farr or Dr. Kolisek will take the time to ensure that the patient fully understands his or her condition and the recommended treatment options. Patients are encouraged to ask questions and discuss concerns; KCI nurses and therapists, who are also specialists in knee care, also invite patients to talk with them. A wealth of patient education materials, including anatomical models, videos, and brochures, is also available.

Many knee conditions can be managed at KCI utilizing non-operative measures such as medication and physical therapy. When surgery is recommended, it is after more conservative options have been considered. In either case, KCI patients will take comfort in knowing they are in the hands of highly trained specialists who want patients to participate in the treatment decision-making and feel completely comfortable with the chosen course of action.

Delivering Results: Performance and Safety

After all is said and done, the mark of a truly effective orthopaedic surgeon is the ability to perform complex surgical procedures with few, if any, minor complications. Even total knee replacement—perhaps the most invasive surgery performed at KCI—should result in near 100% success. Indeed, the proven record of Dr. Farr and Dr. Kolisek demonstrates their exceptional abilities. Their rate of success is very high and complication rates are very low. Procedures are performed quickly, efficiently, and safely.
